There is a reason why this is considered to be one of the toughest career paths for a student in our country. A plethora of examinations, endless rigors and challenges is the part and parcel of becoming a doctor. Appearing for the entrance exams is just the first step towards admission in India’s top medical colleges. These exams are conducted every year at both on an all India basis as well as at the State Level. Some National Level Medical Institutions also conduct their own Entrance Test.
Every year students face a lot of uncertainty when it comes to the various guidelines involved in the myriad entrance examinations like the NEET, AIIMS, JIPMER and the COMEDK. Here’s a detailed report for the same which will take some of their burden away, if not all of it.
1) AIPMT/NEET:
All India Pre-Medical/ Pre-Dental Entrance Test (AIPMT) is a national level entrance exam that is organized every year for admission in MBBS/BDS programs. AIPMT is managed by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). AIPMT has been replaced by NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) in 2016.
FORMAT:
i) Three sections in the examination are:
- Physics: 45 questions
- Chemistry: 45 questions
- Biology (Botany and Zoology): 90 questions
DATE AND TIME: The AIPMT/NEET offline exam is scheduled in the first week of May 2017. The examination is a 3-hour duration test paper (10:00 am to 1:00 pm).
2) AIIMS:
AIIMS MBBS is a national level undergraduate (UG) medical entrance exam conducted by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (New Delhi) for admission to MBBS programmes.
FORMAT:
i) There will be 200 questions divided into sections as follows:
- Physics: 60 questions
- Chemistry: 60 questions
- Biology (Botany and Zoology): 60 questions
- General Knowledge/aptitude: 20 questions
ii) Three marks are awarded for each correct answer and one mark will be deducted for an incorrect response.
DATE: The online exam is scheduled on 28th May, 2017 for 3 hours 30 minutes.
APPLICATION DEADLINE: The application form will be tentatively available from the first half of January till the third week of March 2017.
3) COMEDK:
COMEDK UGET is a state level entrance examination managed by the Consortium of Medical Engineering and Dental of Karnataka (COMEDK).
FORMAT:
i) The test papers of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and General English include questions based on the plus two syllabus followed by major Boards/Universities.
ii) It is a 3-hour duration exam with sections as follows:
- Physics: 60 questions
- Chemistry: 60 questions
- Biology: 60 questions
iii) 1 mark is rewarded for each correct answer and there is no negative marking.
DATE: The exam is going to be conducted online on 7th May, 2017.
APPLICATION DEADLINE: The application form can be filled till April 2017.
4) JIPMER:
JIPMER (Jawaharlal Institute Postgraduate Medical Education & Research) is one of the premier institutions in the field of medical education in India. These courses are provided by the JIPMER, Puducherry and JIPMER, Karaikal.
FORMAT:
i) There are four sections in the examination:
- Physics: 60 questions
- Chemistry: 60 questions
- Biology: 60 questions
- English Proficiency: 10 questions
- Logical Reasoning: 10 questions
ii) 1 mark is rewarded for each correct answer and there is no negative marking.
DATE: The exam will be conducted through CBT (Computer Based Test) on 4th June, 2017.
APPLICATION DEADLINE: Application forms will be available from 27 March, 2017.
Last date for application is 3 May, 2017.
5) WBJEEM:
WBJEEM (West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Medical) is a state level entrance exam managed by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board.
FORMAT:
The exam is going to be conducted with two Papers as:
PAPER 1: Biology
PAPER 2: Physics and Chemistry
DATE AND TIME: The exam is going to be conducted online in the third week of May 2017.
APPLICATION DEADLINE: The application form can be filled till the last week of February 2017.
6) MHT CET:
The Government of Maharashtra owns the authority to organize the MHT CET (Maharashtra Common Entrance Test). It is a common entrance test organized for providing admissions in health science degree, engineering & technology and pharmacy courses offered by various government and private colleges of Maharashtra.
FORMAT:
i) The questions are divided into sections as follows:
- Physics: 50 questions
- Chemistry: 50 questions
- Biology (Zoology): 50 questions
ii) 1 mark will be provided for each correct answer and there is no negative marking for incorrect responses.
DATE: The exam is going to be conducted on 11th May, 2017.
APPLICATION DEADLINE: The application form can be filled in the month of March 2017.
