Being an Indian student, there are high chances you have considered a career in engineering! Appearing for engineering entrance exams or competitive exams is the first step towards getting into India’s premiere engineering colleges. These entrance exams are conducted every year at both National and State levels. This article will give you an insight into some of the entrance exams and the respective formats they follow.
1)JEE MAINS AND JEE ADVANCED
JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) is a two-level exam i.e. Mains and Advanced.
JEE MAINS: It is conducted by CBSE Board (Central Board of Secondary Education) in India. It is conducted for the admissions in government colleges i.e. NITs, IIITs and some other engineering institutions.
JEE ADVANCED: It is conducted by IIT (Indian Institutes of Technology) in India for admissions in B.Tech/B.Arch in IITs. The candidates who clear the Mains are eligible to appear for Jee Advanced.
FORMAT:
i) JEE MAINS is a 3 hour paper.
ii) Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics MCQs are of 4 marks each.
iii) There’s a negative marking of 1 mark for each incorrect answer.
2) SRMJEE:
SRMJEEE (Sri Ramaswamy Memorial Joint Engineering Entrance Examination) is conducted by SRM UNIVERSITY in India. It is held for the admissions in SRM University Campuses i.e. Kattankulathur, Ramapuram, Vadapalani, Delhi-NCR and Sonepat.
FORMAT:
i) SRMJEEE 2017 question paper is of 315 marks.
ii) Candidates opting for PCM, will have 35 questions each from all three subjects – Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, making a total of 315 marks.
iii) Candidates opting for PCB, will have 35 questions each from Physics and Chemistry, while Biology section will carry a weightage of 50 questions. The question paper in PCB group will also be of 315 marks.
iv) Zero Mark (No negative mark) will be deducted for incorrect response.
3) VITEEE:
VITEEE (Vellore Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Exam) is an entrance exam for admission to undergraduate engineering courses in two campuses of Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT UNIVERSITY) i.e. Vellore and Chennai, both in Tamil Nadu.
FORMAT:
i) The duration of the paper is 2 hours and 30 minutes.
ii) There are four sections: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English.
iii) Each section will carry 40 questions, except the English section which consists of 5 questions.
iv) For each correct answer, 1 mark will be awarded. There is no negative marking.
4) BITSAT:
BITSAT (Birla Institute of Technology and Science Admission Test) is an online test conducted by BITS Pilani for admissions in B.Tech in BITS Pilani, Hyderabad, Goa and Dubai.
FORMAT:
i) The test conducted for 3 hours.
ii) There is a total 150 MCQs on Physics, General English, Chemistry and Math/ Biology subjects. The number of questions in each subject are as follows: Physics: 40 questions, Chemistry: 40 questions, English Proficiency: 15 questions Logical Reasoning: 10 questions, Mathematics: 45 questions.
iii) For each correct answer, candidate will be rewarded 3 marks and for each wrong answer, 1 mark will be deducted.
5) UPESEAT:
UPESEAT (University of Petroleum and Energy Studies Engineering Aptitude Test) is an engineering exam conducted by UPES Dehradun.
FORMAT:
It is a 3 hour paper.
6) MUOET:
MUOET (Manipal University Open Entrance Test) is the online exam for admissions in Manipal University. There are three campuses of Manipal University i.e. Bangalore, Jaipur and Sikkim.
FORMAT:
The exam evaluates candidates in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and General English. The questions are based on the 10+2 syllabus followed by major 10+2 Boards/Universities.
7) COMEDK:
COMEDK UGET is a state level entrance exam managed by the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental of Karnataka (COMEDK). This entrance exam will be held only for admission in the engineering & Architecture courses, i.e. B.Tech and B.Arch.
FORMAT:
i) The test comprises sections in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and General English. It includes questions based on the 10+2 syllabus followed by major 10+2 Boards/Universities.
ii) It is a 3-hour paper with sections as follows:
Physics: 60 questions, Chemistry: 60 questions, Mathematics: 60 questions
iii) 1 mark is rewarded for each correct answer and there’s no negative marking.
8) WBJEE :
WBJEE (West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination) is a state level entrance exam conducted by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board.
FORMAT:
The paper tests candidates on the following:
PAPER 1: Mathematics
PAPER 2: Physics and Chemistry
